chimneys

We're really not sure how Santa could get down the ones here, since they all have these little clay pots on top.

the star

Daddy told me that he needed some help.  This will light the way to Jesus.

It's beginning to look a lot like... Besançon

He may or may not be a real guy... but that's real candy!

Deck the streets!

Voilà.  The mayor's office.

Our first taste of chestnuts, roasted in a BBQ pit.

Christmas party

My new friend was really sad to leave after the party.  We had fun playing with remote control Barbie cars.

Pere Noel

This was the Christmas party at our school. Daddy told us that Pere Noel is explaining to the inquisitive 3-year-old that it's not easy with all the political pressure, austerity and all that stuff, to maintain a bunch of reindeer, much less fly out when the air space is regulated-- this can only happen Christmas Eve... (transcript below). Not sure if the kid was encouraged or not.

Pere Noel 2012 at kids school from jacq scott on Vimeo.

"It will be ok on December the 24th, it will be with reindeers...but you know, given the bad period we are going through, it's hard to work out our priorities...Yeah...don't worry, it will be solved on December the 24th, I will come with my reindeers when they are allowed to fly...but you know, they are only allowed to fly on December the 24th...it's complicated...yeah...that's because of the economic crisis...Santa Claus of modern times...you know how firms work now..."

44

This is what it looks like at age 44 in France.  That's a 4 on the left and 4 candles on the right, about to catch Daddy's sweater on fire.  Just kidding.  He can still blow out candles.  It's all good.
Bon appetit!

it was a giant leap and a great big bound to get to the top of this bright green mound. (try saying that 10 times real fast.)

His Kingdom

This is the city where we live.  Our house is located where this photo was taken.  Our school is right up this road.  See all these people?  I think they say 98% of them don't know Jesus like we do.  Please pray for all those people walking down there.  Jesus just LOVES them!  God bless Besançon!

Jesus said it well... pray that His Kingdom would come and His will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

well...

Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”  The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”

This is how you say, "I just turned 11" in sign language.  It was a good day.  My first double digits, ever!

the salt mines

in case there was any doubt in our minds that they mined salt here back in the day, they let us taste the water being pumped out.  We were spitting for the next 48 minutes or so...
